EFFECTIVE WATER SUPPLY FOR IRRIGATION
Moving water from reservoirs and river basins extends utilisable arable land area and gives livestock safe access to drinking water. Our wind turbines use the latest technology to make the most of available wind, producing the energy to drive electric pumps which move significant amounts of surface water.
Wind-turbine-driven pumping solutions are very simple, only requiring a suitable turbine and minimal external components. Our turbines can drive the surface pumps directly and if required, a battery pack can be added to guarantee water supply on days with no or low winds. Water can also be pumped to a storage tank and released via simple gravity-fed systems.
The small wind turbines work with very low wind speeds, starting from as little as 2.5 m/s. The small wind-turbine-powered pumps are an excellent choice for domestic irrigation and surface water pumping. The system can pump up to 100,000 litres of water each day from a reservoir or river basin, up to a height of 5 metres.
The inherent design, long service life – up to twenty years – and limited number of system components make these surface water pumping solutions very reliable and in need of little maintenance.
In many parts of northern Nigeria surface irrigation schemes are in disrepair or rely on unsustainable technologies. Our wind turbines provide an almost immediate positive cost benefit when pumping surface water for irrigation purposes.
