Secure and reliable availability of fresh water is crucial for sustaining all life; people and animals alike. In northern Nigeria especially, the provision of water keeps animals healthy, improves grazing grounds and facilitates the passage of livestock on international trading routes. Our mechanical wind pumps can provide water for these, and many more applications.
The mechanical wind pumps work with very low wind speeds, starting as low as 2.5 m/s. They continue to pump water day and night, providing fresh water for people and cattle. Water is pumped to a holding tank that provides water storage and guaranteed water supply to cover a period of windless days. Domestic water can then be drawn from the tank as needed.
Water is distributed to animals through a system of troughs which give them access to fresh water on a daily basis. The system can pump an average of 18,000 litres of water from a depth of 50 metres every day, and support 300 – 600 animals.
The mechanical wind pumps are also an excellent and simple choice for domestic irrigation and surface water pumping. The system can pump up to 50,000 litres of water from a reservoir or river basin, up to a height of 5 metres.
Our mechanical wind pumps are very easy and cost-effective to maintain. If they are regularly maintained they have an anticipated lifetime of well over 40 years. Reliability of rural water supply can therefore be ensured over the long term.
